No real difference. Both refer to the same process: evaluating a vehicle’s emissions system to ensure it complies with state air quality standards.
The terms are often used interchangeably, but:
“Smog check” is the official term (used by BAR and DMV)
“Smog test” is a casual or customer-friendly term
